Mid. Data Engineer

Description:

  • Designs, implements, and operates data management systems for intelligence needs.
  • Designs how data will be stored, accessed, used, integrated, and managed by different data regimes and digital systems.
  • Works with data users to determine, create, and populate optimal data architectures, structures, and systems.
  • Plans, designs, and optimize data throughput and query performance.
  • Participates in the selection of backend database technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL, NoSQL, HPC, etc.), their configuration and utilization, and the optimization of the full data pipeline infrastructure to support the actual content, volume, ETL, and periodicity of data to support the intended kinds of queries and analysis to match expected responsiveness.
  • Manage table structure of the PostgreSQL, ensure coherent structure inter-table relations minimizing with no duplications or inefficiencies; ensure all relational keys are correct and that data joins operate as intended; accommodate the inclusion of newly identified data sources and ensure integration amongst tables.
  • Implement inflation-adjustment calculations in the Defense Economics Data Repository (DED-R) backend, debugging calculations when necessary; ensure calculations are completed accurately with available sources of commercial data.
  • Monitor calculations for accuracy and changes in source data.
  • Conduct data quality evaluations and remediation to guarantee data is timely, accurate, and consistently formatted supporting analyst and leadership requirements.
  • Evaluate sourcing in the defense economics data repository to identify inconsistencies, classification concerns, and operability challenges.
  • Recommend data standardization and aggregation methods supporting long term analytic development.
  • Meet regularly with leadership and staff to identify, evaluate, and recommend new UNCLASSIFIED commercial data sources relevant to data analytic directives.
  • Engage in development tasks as necessary to optimize and upgrade DED-R version 1.0, conducting debugging as necessary to ensure database up-time.
  • Ensure logical and intuitive file management system of DED-R related scripts as they pertain to database set up and maintenance.

Security Clearance:

  • Security clearance required TS/SCI with CI POLY or the ability to obtain CI POLY.
Job Requirements

Desired experiences:

  • At least 8 years of experience conducting analysis relevant to the specific labor category with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years.

Desired education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area related to the labor category from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • An additional 4 years of experience in the specific labor category, for a total of 12 years of experience in the specific labor category, may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
